Who We Are

SEDT is an evolving dream that has been working towards the betterment of the society as a whole. We exist to empower people especially of the weaker section of the society and build social structures and bridges to help people and increase access to service delivery system, uplift their socio-economic status and exercise their rights effectively.

Love, respect to everybody, equality, primary care of environment, sustainable development and commitment to democracy embodies the value system of the organization.

We believe that people are poor not because of their destiny but because of lack of proper education and access to resources.

We believe in social and cultural inherent strengths and potential of people to bring about social change for development and betterment of life and society at large. And so the pannier of our development agenda includes –

  • Women empowerment
  • Forming women SHGs, providing guidance and skill development in women for effective functioning of SHGs so as to uplift the social and economic status of women in the society
  • Rescue, rehabilitation and reintegration of Child labor
  • Campaigning and advocacy for Child Rights Protection
  • Quality education for children and adolescent girls
  • Community health and hygiene
  • Agriculture development and exploring alternate livelihood opportunities for economic emergence of weaker section of society
  • Targeted interventions and HIV prevention programs for migrant labor and commercial sex workers

Our paragon is "Swapnabhoomi", an integrated Child Care Center established at Kerwadi to provide a shelter and support to the destitute and defectors children and preparing them to face the outside world with self-confidence and dignity. Presently 64 children are residing in Swapnabhoomi and the total number of children passed out from the home is 408.

Today at SEDT Kerwadi, we have following infrastructure which facilitates in implementing the initiatives –

  • A campus spread over 3 acres
  • Training and capacity building center with a residential capacity of 40 to 60 people. The centre is well equipped with audio-visual facility and training material
  • Staff quarter for 18 families
  • Library with adequate social literature and research material
  • Discovery Science Centre – A Science and Curiosity Centre with 28000 sq. ft of constructed indoor area, equipped with more than 100 Exhibits, Mobile Planetarium, a Theatre and several Interactive models
  • Home for 70 children–Swapnabhoomi
  • School with adequate facilities and well equipped computer lab and scientific lab

SEDT have a team of 211 members engaged on full time basis in the project activities. The team is comprised of trained and experienced members having expertise on different subjects and areas of development.

SEDT is also functioning as a Coordination Agency for 172 NGOs in India working for Child Education and Protection of Child Rights.

Mr.Suryakant Kulkarni is the founder of SEDT. Through his restless and persistent work over last 40 years has enriched the capacities of the organization.  The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has appointed Mr. Kulkarni as ‘State Representative’ for Maharashtra to monitor and advise on ‘Right to Education’ in 2010-2011 and 2012. In 2013, NCPCR appointed Mr. Kulkarni as member of ‘Expert Advisory Group’ for NCPCR. He has been conducting several workshops for Government functionaries and bureaucrats at State and National level on - Child Rights Protection

Today, the work is focused in more than 350 villages of 17 blocks of Parbhani, Hingoli and Buldhana districts of Marathwada and Vidharbha region of Maharashtra State. With the work in Child Education and Science Centers in particular, we extended the work to 12 districts of Marathwada, Vidharbha, Khandesh regions and the tribal belt of Western Maharashtra

SEDT is making a difference in 46,174 families comprising a population of 2.4 lakhs spread across 3 districts of Maharashtra state.
